Before the WOD we did clean & jerks, something that I do not get to do very often.  So I was looking forward to it.  I intentionally paired up with a guy who is pretty strong.  He is usually heavier on every lift than I am and has perfect form to boot.  I figured he would be a good person to help me go a little heavy.
We warmed up with 135 and made our way to my 1RM of 185.  For some reason, and I am sure it is all mental, I have been stuck at 185 for what seems like an eternity (not really possible since I just started CrossFit in March of last year).  Every time I go heavier than 185 I fail.  After doing 185 I could feel it creeping up in my head.  My buddy looked and me and asked if I wanted to go heavier and I told him we were at the weight I had previously maxed at.  So we added 10 more pounds to give it a shot.  He made it look easy, which he always does.  I was freaking stoked to clean that weight and hit a new PR.  Having never lifted weights and certainly never anything overhead, getting 195lbs felt amazing.  I struggled with the first jerk but realized I was rushing it and didn’t set right, but nailed it the second time.
Then it was time to hit the WOD and this morning, it was pretty nasty.  I have not been this worn out from a WOD in a little while.  Not a certain area of the body, but just overall worn out.  I did my best to keep the “explosive” burpees from turning into a drama on the Lifetime channel by the later rounds.  By the way, an “explosive” burpee, as it was explained to us, is a regular burpee, except when you go to jump, you have a higher jump and more motion at the top.
I blazed through the snatches and the weight felt light.  But the split lunges, oh my, those sucked.  I did a few of them and wondered what the heck was wrong with my legs.  That really threw me off and slowed me down.  Really tough WOD though.  I think it snuck up on everyone judging by the expression on everyone’s faces at the end.
6 rounds + 3 burpees @ RX. Post-WOD: 1500m row (5:50).
