Tour de Cure: 100 Miles

While this is not going to be the first century ride that I do, it will always be remembered as the first one that I signed up for. Or should I say, was signed up (thank you, Peto). And I have to be pretty honest here, I am fortunate that neither my wife, my children, or me for that matter, have had to deal with diabetes.
After signing up for this I have to say, I was more intimidated by the fundraising aspect than the ride itself. So many people here on Tumblr do a far better job at fundraising than I think I could.
But you know what got me going? A co-worker’s story about her daughter with Type I diabetes. She said that she was participating in a cheerleading event and prior to the event they were checking her making sure everything was good to go and her levels went crazy. The excitement, nervousness, and everything else that goes on in your body prior to an event like that was too much for her body to handle. Now, they plan accordingly, but it really made me thankful for my healthy children. I would love for my co-workers daughter to one day know what it is like to not have to worry about having diabetes. How awesome would that be?
So I am not asking for money for me. Don’t sponsor me. I don’t want the money. What I do want is to know that as I cycle 100 miles for this cause, that I have done my part to help raise funds. What I do want is for children like my co-workers little girl to know a life like my daughters know, without worry or fear of diabetes.
