My first 40-miler. Pitbulls & Heart Rates edition

Like I said, probably not a great idea to nearly double your biking distance after doing a WOD with 200 wall balls.  But as I also discovered, sometimes the answer is simply, because I can.  So yesterday, that is what I did.

Here are the Garmin details for those that care:

This was my 4th real ride and my best average to date has been 16.1MPH.  So doubling my distance and still managing a 15.5, I will take it.  I did two of the 20 mile loops I had done a few weekends ago.  The route has some decent stints with hills but also some spots where I could open up and move a little faster.  So I think it is pretty well rounded.

I was also hollered at by someone who said “nice tights”.  Since nobody has ever yelled a compliment at me while I have been running/biking, I almost got excited.  Except that this was a teenager and given the country-like area I was riding in, had I responded, I am sure I would have heard banjo music.

Anyway….

As I entered the parkway toward our subdivision at the end of the ride, I thought about cooling down a bit before just pulling into the driveway.  I took a right down a hill and planned to just coast a little bit.  All of a sudden, this pitbull comes barreling toward me.  My guess is that the kid in the driveway trying to walk him couldn’t hold him and the dog took off…after me!  My legs were spent but this dog was freaking fast!  I was just trying to pedal fast enough to hopefully wear him out.  He darted in front of me and I thought his leash would get caught in my spokes.  He chased me for about 3/4 of a mile until he ended up charging after another dog.

The funny thing is looking at my heart rate data.  Check out the spike there at the very end.

All in all, a good ride, with a bit of a rush there at the end.
