St. Jude Country Music Nashville Half-Marathon...
After looking back at everything I wrote, it is clear that I got long winded. So for those that don’t care to read all my ramblings I’ll put it all after the jump.[[MORE]]
The race was probably just a small part of this weekend for us, and at times, just a matter of a formality. You see, this was our first entire weekend where we were kid free. Gina’s folks were kind enough to watch our...

Reality
Back home and trying to wrap my mind about going back to reality tomorrow. It won’t be easy. Very thankful for such a great weekend and having the opportunity to finally meet some of you in person. Wish I could hit a replay button and do it all over again.

Not sure where else this should live, but I know this universal truth: The jammy pack will forever hold a special place in all of our hearts. God bless you, jammy pack. God bless you.

Nashville
The Marriott has it down. Swag bag for runners at check in, shuttle to the expo, and super continental breakfast starting at 4:30 a.m. That’s what’s up.

Pleasantly Awkward
Gina and I went out Friday night and I was trying on some new clothes. Something new for me was not being limited by my waist size by my legs.
I had a pair of jeans that would have fit my waist yet I couldn’t even get them over my calves. Gina grabbed the next size up and this time it was my thighs. It’s a really exciting and different place for me to be in and proof of how my body...

WOD #1 - 10RFT:
3 Clean & Jerks @ 155lbs
10 Double Unders
10 Box Jumps (24”)
Time was 22 minutes and some change. Double unders slowed me down but it was cool to actually try them in a WOD. This was actually programmed by a friend and something I would not have wanted to do. Which made it great because it worked some weaknesses. I actually don’t like box jumps and...

lifedoesjed replied to your photo: GPOY. KB edition.
Do you have someone follow you around with a camera when you workout?! You have some awesome workout shots.
Ha!
Actually this was one thing that kinda threw me off about my first time at CrossFit. I don’t really remember the WOD but I recall box jumps and kettlebells. I thought I was going to die and was doing what I could just to...

Running Experiment & Question
Since training for the half-marathon coming up has been, well, non-existent, I am getting pretty worried. I have run all of 4 or 5 times to prepare for this thing so far and the longest distance has been a 5K. On Sunday, I wanted to see how much gas I had in the tank and if I could just pull a long run out of nowhere. With the Garmin I can monitor my pace as I go, something I couldn’t do...

gillsquirt replied to your photo: Holy elevation change, Batman! I wanted to die….
so were there 3 people in your age group, then? (way to go!!!)
Uh oh. Someone has figured out my strategy! I am still searching for a 5K where only 2 other people enter.

Yesterday I got the 5K a little early and was just walking around, taking in the weather. My wife was asleep with our 2 year old taking a nap. But our 5 year old was awake playing on her iPad. She took this video and then sent it to me. Unprompted and on her own.
I had to walk over to my truck to get some composure.
I am so thankful that I chose the path to health. I am so thankful that I will...

5K
Forgot about winning an entry to a 5K this afternoon. Those heavy deads, power cleans, and 200m runs this morning at CrossFit are gonna feel great.

This morning my wife came to CrossFit for the first time. I wish I had the capability of explaining here how awesome it was seeing her there doing power cleans.

Running With Guts: Sometimes I think people that... →
As always, Brenna has a very honest and straightforward way of putting things. This blog entry of hers is no different, and for anyone who has struggled with their weight, I would imagine that they could relate. I know I did.

When you’re feeling bad about yourself, you eat crap to perpetuate feelings of failure and thus keep yourself down. You may not be causing yourself...

Run For God 5K - Sanford, Florida
Over the weekend my family and I went to Florida to visit my family. On a somewhat spur of the moment kind of thing, my sister and I signed up for a 5K on Saturday. Since she has 4 kids and I have 2, the free Easter basket, t-shirt, and kids run for the little ones was hard to pass up.
I don’t normally write recaps for 5Ks but this one was pretty special to me. Since I have been focusing...

“Mental strength outweighs the physical by far. There are people who are a lot more physically gifted than myself, but you have to be able to push past that point when you want to quit, when you think you can only do so much, when you think you can’t do anymore. The mental aspect is huge.”

CrossFit is messing with my head
Tonight a lady came to our house to buy some of these decorative brick things (look, I don’t know the official landscaping term) from us that we weren’t using. I couldn’t let her load them up by herself so I helped.
When I saw she was carrying 3 at a time, I started to question what the men’s weight should be. So I doubled that to 6 and then tried to make two trips to her...

Hour of core work this morning. Went at it a little reserved, considering how sore I was from yesterday. Treated it like active recovery and I am very glad that I went and stayed active. I think I would be even more sore had I opted to not do anything today. Looking forward to the day!
