Life Does Jed: You Will Never Be Ready →
Man, I can so relate to this. Too many times in my life I have waited to do something until I was ready. I waited until I was in my comfort zone. This year I feel as if I have existed entirely out of that comfort zone, doing things I never in a million years thought I would be doing. Never once feeling 100% ready to do it either. Take this article to heart. lifedoesjed: One of the things...

Rain Run v. Accidentally Kicked a Frog
Sunday was a really cool day.  It started off by doing life in Atlanta with some amazing people, including two of the three people most directly responsible for me getting to where I am right now.  During a workshop last week on training for a half/full marathon, the trainer recommended running the rain to prepare yourself for all types of weather. She mentioned a marathon she ran where 18 of the...

Sometimes you tend to forget
On Saturday I had an interesting moment during the workout.  Part of the WOD included bar lunges.  We were to do 5 minutes of them, splitting the time with a partner.  As I found myself in the parking lot, sweating like crazy, legs burning from the lunges and the weight, I thought to myself, “Add 20 more pounds to the bar and that was what you carried around every day about 6 months...

Fox 5 Atlanta came out toward the tail end of the Do Life Tour stop through Atlanta.  If you look closely in the middle you can catch me (yellow shirt) running with Peto.

Ben Does Life.: Do Life: Atlanta. That one time we... →
bendoeslife: A beautiful group of people, but this picture almost had to be taken from the local precinct. That’s a little bit of hyperbole, but the Atlanta P.D. was out in full force today cracking down on the widespread crime involving a few dozen runners just trying to have a 5K on a sunny Sunday…

Do Life
I am heading up to Atlanta to meet Ben, his family, and to do some life with some other inspirational people.  Two of my biggest motivators and inspirations are also riding in the car with me to do life as well.  Hell yea.

Running Survey
Saw this pop up a few times on my dashboard. I never really get into these survey things but caved on this. Here goes… What is your favorite type of cross training? CrossFit. What is your favorite song to run to? My playlist is shuffled with Crystal Method and Chemical Brothers. What brand of shoes do you wear? Brooks Do you wear a hat when you run? Halo headbands for me. What...

"Melting Away"
As I was leaving CrossFit this morning, a lady stopped me to talk. I have only really said hello and bye to her. She turned to me and said “You are just melting away. You look great.” She went on to say how she remembers me coming in at first and how I struggled but just kept working through it. She even said that I look like I am getting better. Our brief exchange did so much for me...

First Half & Nerves
November will be another first for me: my first half-marathon.  My wife’s, too.  We will be running the Rock N’ Roll Half-Marathon in Savannah.  Honestly, I have been nervous about it.  My longest run (though not fast) was 12.5 miles so I know I can run 13.1.  But for some reason, the mental aspect of this has crept in and really been beating me up.  Not sure why I let it.  This should...

Some runs are good, some are not...
Advice I got from a runner recently and held true today.  Felt good this morning during the first mile.  Fully intended on banging out a really quick 5K and ended up with a much slower pace, despite feeling good and like I was doing good.  Perhaps I should be happy that I at least got up and did something, but can’t shake that feeling of defeat for not being able to best my last time.

What can be done in 180 days?
Exactly 180 days ago, my wife and I made a decision to get healthy.  180 days… today.  In some aspects I look back and it feels like 180 days is a very long time.  However, it also feels like that time has flown by.  What has happened in 180 days: Eat Healthy: It all started with this.  We threw away our unhealthy food and restocked with good stuff following the Biggest Loser 30 Day Jump...

Portobello Pizzas
Before I started eating clean, I hated mushrooms. Couldn’t stand them. But I always loved pizza. Still do. So I gave this a shot and actually really enjoyed it. So if you are skeptical about mushrooms, try it and you may be surprised. Ingredients: Portobello mushroom caps (about 5” diameter) Low-fat marinara sauce (1/2 cup) Lean turkey Italian sausage (1/2 cup, cooked) ...

Death by Beast
As I wrote before after a long run, my knees just didn’t hold up.  In looking back, I was increasing my mileage on my long runs too much too fast.  I felt like I had the cardio, but the rest of me wasn’t keeping up.  The plan was to run 6’s this week and next to see how it goes.  It felt great, actually.  My pace was good and actually faster than my last long run. This morning...

Restore Tumblr Sidebar
I have seen people reblogging a post to get a script that restores the sidebar information on their Tumblr dash.  You don’t have to reblog anyone to get that.  It’s freely available for Firefox users.  And its super easy to install. Download the Greasemonkey add-on Restart your browser Then install the ‘Tumblr Sidebr’ script And that’s it!

34
Went during lunch out of curiosity to try on some new pants.  Even though they were tight and gave me a muffin top, I was able to put on and button a pair of 34s.  Still not comfortable in them enough to wear them day to day, but I am close.  Much better than 6 months ago when I was in a 44.

Here is the Tough Mudder course my friends and I will be running this December.  Course distance is set at 12 miles with 21 obstacles.  What the hell was I thinking?

Midnight Run For Missions 5K
After one of the most brutal Crossfit WODs I had done, my buddy Peto managed to talk me into running a 5K last night at 10pm.  My legs were really tight, despite stretching all day long and I was actually worried about the run.  Every time I run I want to improve.  My last 5K time was 30:07 but with my legs and how sore I was I was not sure if I could make it.  My time was actually 33:38 and I was...

jillianmichaelswannabe: Learned a cool technique for tying my running shoes from my friend Jess last night. I have always had the problem with my heel slipping out of the back (I have really narrow feet and super high arches), but if I lace them really tight the normal way I end up with either numbness in my foot or pain on the top of my foot. This is the PERFECT solution!

New 5K PR
Busted out a 30:07 this morning. I am still in shock that I did that. A friend ran with me and paced me which really helped. I wished I had pushed just a little harder to break the 30 minute mark now. Oh well, I will get it next time. My wife ran it as well. She wanted to finish without walking and also finish under 40 minutes. Not only did she run the whole thing but she finished in 38:07! I...
