Milestones
This weekend was amazing.  As a family, we stayed busy, stayed outdoors, and stayed active.  However, Saturday was especially important to me personally.  Having been inspired and pushed, I ran 3 miles in the morning.  It felt great.  I am not setting any record pace (39 minutes), but it was the longest distance thus far. I got home, showered, made my wife and I a healthy breakfast and went to...

Feeling good is...
…going through your closet trying on clothes that haven’t fit in over a year, but this time having them be too big.

Day 60
I broke down today.  For lunch I went to Wendy’s and had two double stacks with cheese, large fries, Dr. Pepper, and a large Frosty for dessert. Just kidding…  Today marks 60 days without caffeine or fast food.  Still going strong on the road to a healthier lifestyle and I have never felt better.  Gina has lost a total of 17 pounds and I have lost a total of 33.  Blood pressure is...

Normal
Last night I checked my BP and it was 118/71 which is considered within the normal range. That is the first time my BP has been in a “normal range” in over 5 years. Yea, 5 years! My goal of getting off BP medication is no longer a matter of “if” but “when”.

New experience at the park
Today was great and full of victories for me.  This afternoon, with the weather being full of awesomeness, we went to the park.  Normally this consists of me watching Lauren run around while I mosey around, counting the minutes until we can leave.  But today I pushed Emily around in a stroller and had the desire to kick the pace up a little.  After counting the laps I had walked 2 miles.  After...

Went for a rog
A rog is what us fat folks do. Not quite a run but not a jog either. You know, a rog. This was the first run I have attempted in about a year, so I had a slow pace. The success for me here was that I didn’t have to stop or walk. I kept my pace which felt good. The last time I tried that I only ran 1/4 of the way before having to walk. Baby steps…

50
Day 50 is here.  Wow.  In week 2 I thought I would fall flat on my face.  Thankfully when I have wanted to quit, my wife was there to be a pillar of strength and I credit her for my success in this. We both expect it to be a little tougher to continue to lose weight as we lose more and more.  This past week, my goal was to exercise, something I did all of 4 times during the first 30+ days.  I hit...

Cheat Meal
Last night my wife and I had a cheat meal.  It was wonderful. As with my last cheat meal, this was delivered upon the wings of singing angels. When do I cheat and how often?  Well, this was the second cheat meal in the last 45 days.  I have been told that as long as I exercise that I could have a cheat meal once a week.  That very well may be true.  However, for me, I am not going to do that.  I...

Fluid
When I tell people I have completely cut out caffeine, I usually get “I just couldn’t live without my coffee.” I used to drink at least 4 cups a day.  I had a travel mug that held about 4 cups and I would dump 2 heaping tablespoons of sugar and mix that with an oversized portion of French Vanilla creamer.  During the rest of the day, it was a fixation of Diet Coke that took...

What Works
As of this week, I have lost 30 pounds and have done so in 43 days of changing my eating habits.  I would have failed in week 2 had it not been for my wife.  This is truth.  When I lost the first 20 pounds, I guess it was enough for people to start asking what I was doing and how it was done so quickly. So quickly… That is a trap, friends.  You may be able to do something quickly, but you...

Exercise
When I say we followed the book with about 95% accuracy, I am referring to the food portion of it.  The book also covers exercise, which I did about 4 times during the 30 days.  I was more active because I was feeling better, but not truly exercising. A friend challenged me this week to exercise, so my goal has been to get up early every day and do just that.  Do something.  Not really for a...
