That guy
I guess I have officially become “that guy”.
My wife’s folks were kind enough to come watch the girls for a few hours today. Instead of goofing off, renting movies, playing games, or anything of the sort, I used the time to take my bike out for the first time. I still have a lot to learn, however, the taste I got for biking today was sweet.
15 miles on the bike followed by a...

What's it like to lose 170 pounds?
Wonder what it would be like to lose 170 pounds? How about asking someone who has done it?
I think the first time I met Ben was at the Do Life Atlanta 5K. I had not known him prior to that so when someone told me how much weight he had lost it just floored me. I knew I had done a decent job at dropping some poundage, but this guy… Just a whole different level.
There is a lot I admire...

One year ago, life changed with a single phone...
There I was, just chilling on the couch. Not doing anything really productive because I had a long week at work. I loved Saturdays because they are the only days that I get to sleep in. Even with the girls getting up early, it is still sleeping in compared to the week. And what Saturday mornings are complete without waffles, giant glasses of milk, and plenty of bacon? After gorging myself, it...

This morning, I thought I woke up in heaven
“Hey honey, breakfast is ready. Coffee is made, too.”
That is what I woke up to this morning. This past week was super hectic. Making all the meals, getting the girls to and from daycare/school, special programs, parties, work, working out, and just the general stress of getting prepared for the holidays left me worn out. Absolutely worn out. I was tired of cooking. Tired of...

McDonald's? Seriously?
This past weekend my daughter had a Tinkerbell party with some of her girl friends for her birthday. After everyone left my wife told her that she could pick where we ate dinner that night, something that made me cringe when I heard it. Unfortunately, her decision was McDonald’s.
Now, I make no bones about it. I want her to hate that place. I have no issues at all telling her how...

Which do you like best?
A buddy of mine from CrossFit and I have decided to start a new project and see where it takes us. I won’t get into all of the details at the moment, but here is a little glimpse into what we are doing. The company is called “Hurt Locker” (Drop by Facebook and give us a like, will ya?) and if you have ever done an extremely taxing and painful workout, run, or any routine that...

Possibly the Toughest Event on the Planet
I don’t really know where to start with this recap because this is so much different than anything I have ever done. To be honest, looking back on the event, I forgot a lot of what we went through, so it is hard to give a mile by mile break down of what this thing was like. Even the official course website has some of the obstacles listed out of order. So I will do my best and describe...

Something cool happened yesterday
It is really great to be in a marriage where you both know each others strengths and weaknesses and not use them against each other, but to support and hold the other up. Last year my wife was the reason I turned my health around. With a single action she put all of this in motion. So last night, when she looked at me and said “I need your help getting back on track with the eating...

Partner WOD
Earlier in the week I thought I would take today off from CrossFit. That seemed to make a lot of sense to me, especially since we are doing Tough Mudder tomorrow. Like a true glutton for punishment I found myself at the box at 5am.
5RFT:
20 pull-ups
20 Box Jumps (24”)
80 yard medicine ball (20#) throw
Cash-Out: 30 deads at 135#. I ended up doing 40 @ 155#.
One works while the other...

It's the little things that destroy us
Pet peeves, I know we all have them. I can say with relative confidence that over the past year some of my pet peeves have gone away and some new ones have surfaced. One here at work really bugs the crap out of me. At both main entrances to our building there are automatic doors for the disabled. Simply press a button and one set of doors opens up. What infuriates me is the number of healthy,...
