Today
I am having trouble eating all of the meals today. Ironically, it feels like too much food.

Whole Foods
Really wish there was a Whole Foods here. Gina emailed them and they say there is not enough demand for our area and that it is also saturated with grocery stores already. :-(

Miss
I miss Chick-Fil-A sausage biscuits for breakfast. I miss Mexican food & cheese dip. I miss my morning mug of cream & sugar filled coffee. I miss buffalo wings. I miss Diet Coke. I do not miss how I felt when those things were a part of my regular diet.

Patience
Sticking with this, we have found, not only takes us both doing it, but patience with regards to meal prep. Last night, had we both not been working on today’s meals, I fear would have failed or gone to bed at 2am. If you are going to do something similar, read ahead on your meal plans and prepare that time to make them into your day. Last night we went to bed a lot later than we would have...

Amazed
Just amazed at how all of these meals taste so good. I normally hate fish but have had it in several meals lately. Everything that I look at and worry about turns out surprising me.

Wow
Today marks a week of this new plan. I have now been 1 week without caffeine and fast food. My body feels cleaner. I got on the scale and was just in shock. In fact, I weighed, took a shower, weighed again out of disbelief. But everytime was the same. I have lost 9 pounds. I called Gina only to learn she has lost 4 lbs this week!

Breakfast + Fish
I understand fish is a great source of protein, but I really want it nowhere near by breakfast.  I am giving this an honest shot, and consumed breakfast, but if I had my way, I would skip fish. Breakfast today called for a grain bagel toasted, with low-fat cream cheese and 3 ounces of lox or salmon.  Gina bought both and recommended that I go with lox since it might be a milder taste than...

Adjustments
So far, the meals and exercise have been the most obvious adjustment.  There are some others that I didn’t really think about until getting into the second week. Groceries:  We spend a lot more money at the grocery store now, buying a lot of items neither of us have eaten and some items we have never heard of.  I actually find it funny to ask employees where some of this stuff is.  Some...

Family
God bless them… Sometimes, it is tough to have them around when starting something like we started.  For example, over the holidays Gina brought over our dinner.  I heard someone say “Gross!”.  This same someone would be one of the first to question us eating so much bad stuff and toss in a mini lecture about health.  So it is a little backwards that support is there but it...

Motivation
I have a lot of motivators. Today we took our “before” photos. I can now add another very powerful motivator to the list.

Exercise
One aspect I have not held true to with our jump start was exercise. The book introduces you to a slow start and I have not done that, until today. It actually felt really good. It was not much to some but when you spend most of your time sitting behind a desk, it was a lot. The best part was that I finished and was starving, then looked at the clock and realized it was snack time! I am actually...

Made it
We made it through Christmas with the family without deviating once from our meal plan. It was a major victory for us because there was food absolutely everywhere!

Wow
We totally withstood the temptation to eat all of the junk food at the family’s house for Christmas eve. We stuck to our guns and our meal plan. For us, this is more than a small victory, it was a major battle won.

Headaches
Getting a few caffeine headaches here and there, and I have noticed they are normally when I drink the most caffeine. I am torn between having caffeine and just sticking this detox out so I can be free of it. It would be nice actually to never drink coffee or coke again. And yes, I can’t believe I said that.

Dedication
It takes patience and dedication to make the meals for the next day. In order to not wake up the girls, I made Gina’s smoothie in the bathroom because the blender is loud.

Sushi & Almonds
These are two things that have come alive recently. I never have tried sushi (veggies) and never liked almonds. Yesterday changed that. I could have eaten a ton of sushi and almonds make a great snack.

Myths busted
So far, two myths have been absolutely destroyed: 1) I am going to starve 2) The food will have no taste I am amazed at how full I stay with such smaller portions of different foods. The food is so colorful and feels fresh. I do not finish a meal with guilt. I have also opened my palette to more selections, stuff I would otherwise never eat.

So it begins
Tired of feeling bad and being overweight, we are finally doing something about it. On Monday, 12/20, Gina bought the Biggest Loser 30-Day Kickstart book. We are giving it a shot.
