Check out Ben on his TV appearance here. The guy just never stops being inspiring. On a side note, if you have met Ben, and didn’t like him, then I will be punching you in the throat with a surfboard. He is one of the must humble people I have met. Congrats on the great work!

Welcome to the Games
I am sure some folks looked at my registration in the CrossFit Games and laughed, writing it off as “why is that guy doing it?” And part of me felt that way at first, too. I don’t see Rich Froning, Jr. consulting his coach, worried, because I have now signed up. But so much of this journey I am on is about pushing yourself, stepping out of your comfort zone, and trying your...

Big warriors come in small packages
Came back from lunch, wrapped up in my usual routine, started to walk upstairs to my office. To my left, I caught glimpse of someone that looked familiar, but it didn’t register at first. I set my stuff down in my office and then went back downstairs. Sure enough, there was Shauna, one of our trainers who was responsible for so much of my growth and who also suffered a major stroke and nearly...

2 BURPEES for every $1 raised →
Did he really say he wanted to do at least 500 burpees? ;-)
christwalk:
Make a donation between now and 10pm on 2/15. I will do 2 BURPEES for every $1 raised in that time period. I despise BURPEES, but I will do whatever it takes to hit my fundraising goal for TEAM 65 Roses benefitting Cystic Fibrosis.
I would simply love to have to do at least 500 burpees…
Please share!

Another reason why I love our gym
Here is a write-up posted on our website about some changes over the next few days. When you read CrossFit bashing sites, they usually complain about injuries and how trainers don’t care what the members do or pay attention. You read about swollen ego and people trying to go too heavy. I love that our gym is an exception to all of that.
We want to take a few steps back and really focus...

Rant: Grocery Stores
OK, so this frustrated me enough to put this out there. You guys know that I try to keep it positive but there are times when I see stuff and it just bothers me to where I feel like I have to say something or explode. To save your dash from my ramblings, I’ll put all the crud behind the jump.
This weekend I was at the grocery store doing our weekly shopping. I always get a kick out of the...

Dear Internet, hold my wife accountable.
As I mentioned earlier, the wife and I are starting training for the RNR Nashville half. She is pretty excited about and I dig that. She has really been doing great with hitting the gym and switching things up, staying active. I think she will also tell you that eating has been a weak point for her. I got her back on that and plan to help as much as humanly possible, but she also said that...

Nashville Bound
Babysitter for the weekend: Check (thank you grandparents!)
Reserve room in Nashville: Check
Get time off work approved: Check
Write out training calendar: Check
The wifey and I are excited about making our way to Nashville for the Rock N’ Roll Marathon. Given that we are both doing the full marathon together in Savannah at the end of the year, I am glad that we chose to do the half in...

Remember Amanda?
Remember my friend Amanda?
You know, the amazing lady who has dropped over 100 pounds so far on her way to get healthy? She is now here on Tumblr. It would be extra cool to drop over to her blog and say hello. :-)

Sometimes you surprise yourself
I was dreading the WOD today, mostly because one of the exercises was toes-to-bar. Much like double-unders and muscle ups, toes-to-bar have eluded me. Not sure why, other than we do not frequently do them and I never practice them.
2011 CrossFit Games Week 5 Open WOD:
5 power cleans @ 145lbs
10 toes-to-bar
15 wall balls @ 20lbs
My plan was to scale the T2B to K2E or something similar. ...

Tour de Cure: 100 Miles
While this is not going to be the first century ride that I do, it will always be remembered as the first one that I signed up for. Or should I say, was signed up (thank you, Peto). And I have to be pretty honest here, I am fortunate that neither my wife, my children, or me for that matter, have had to deal with diabetes.
After signing up for this I have to say, I was more intimidated by the...

I'll have a #2 and...
…spare beef trimmings treated with ammonium hydroxide, a large fry, and a Diet Coke.
Sorry to tell you all that if spare beef trimmings and ammonium hydroxide is your thing, then you will have to go to some place other than McDonald’s to get it.
“Pink Slime, Ammonium Hydroxide Fast Food Ground Beef Additive, Dropped By McDonald’s”
The crazy part is not that people...

My first 40-miler. Pitbulls & Heart Rates edition
Like I said, probably not a great idea to nearly double your biking distance after doing a WOD with 200 wall balls. But as I also discovered, sometimes the answer is simply, because I can. So yesterday, that is what I did.
Here are the Garmin details for those that care:
This was my 4th real ride and my best average to date has been 16.1MPH. So doubling my distance and still managing a...

PR
I don’t think I will ever get tired of being able to type PR.
But first, the workout. 12 minute AMRAP:
9 deadlifts @ 165lbs
12 hand-release push-ups
15 box jumps @ 24”
Felt pretty good. The weakest part of these were the hand-release push-ups. The slowest were the box jumps. I am starting to find a better rhythm to where I can hop up and pop back down quicker. The key is to...

Look around you, inspiration is everywhere
Isn’t that an awesome photo? Isn’t that a beautiful and strong woman? Amanda has put in a lot of work and it shows. She has dropped over 100 pounds and become a new, better, stronger, faster version of her old self.
I am fortunate to know her personally and to have seen her transformation. Through a close friend of hers, she made the decision to change, setting in motion a chain...

Because I can
I think many of us here in Tumblrland can relate to feeling more comfortable with our online realm than that of the real world. Far too often, we don’t vibe well with those we come in contact with on a regular basis because they simply don’t get it. They don’t, and probably never will, understand why we workout the way that we do, run the way that we run, bike the way that we...

The road is too wet for two wheels...
…but not for two feet.
Longest distance since Tough Mudder.
We had planned on a 40 mile bike today but with the heavy rain yesterday and light rain today, the roads are far too wet. But with the mist I could still get out and stretch my legs. So that is just what I did. And it felt amazing. I didn’t really have a distance planned, but wanted to run at least a 5K. At around the...
